Families can trick-or-treat on Halloween in the city of Flint on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Three audible crosswalk devices have been installed on Saginaw St. at the intersections of Union, Kearsley, and First Streets. Another three devices will be installed at Second, Third, and Fourth Streets in the coming weeks.

Crews will re-lay bricks between Court and Third Streets over the next six weeks and continue construction between Second and First Streets concurrently. Utility upgrades and brick restoration between Second and First Streets are expected to be complete by the end of November 2023 as planned.

The interior of the elevated tank has been cleaned and repainted, tank hatches have been upgraded, and nine steel roof support beams have been replaced. A 12-inch drain and an 8-inch overflow pipe have been completely renovated and a new catch basin has been added. New mixers are ready to be installed in the roof after the elevated tower is back in service.

Avoid contact with the Flint River until further notice.

The City of Flint mourns the loss of one of its heroes, Flint’s African American Fire Chief Samuel Dixon Jr., who recently passed away at the age of 95. Flags at Flint City Hall will be lowered to half-staff in his honor.

Partners are coming together to provide comprehensive fire safety classes, aiming to educate and empower the Flint community to prioritize fire safety, prevention, and preparedness.

Under Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley’s watch, the city of Flint has driven over $2 billion in economic development investment in the past year alone.

Maintenance inside the water tower will include cleaning and painting the elevated tank’s interior, installing a new mixer to improve water quality, and making upgrades to the tank hatches, overflow, and drain. The 6-8-week time period allows for draining, cleaning, repairing the tank, application of paint, curing of paint, refilling and testing the tank, and bacteriological testing.

The City of Flint is celebrating local entrepreneurs who are accessing resources and growing their businesses with the help of the Community Navigator Pilot Program, funded by the federal Small Business Administration. Flint native Sheena Harrison is just one entrepreneur whose business, Drinks of Essence, has benefited from the program.

“Scheduled repairs and upgrades to the Flint Water Tower are part of our work to continuously improve our water infrastructure in the City of Flint,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “As we move from crisis to recovery, we are approaching every aspect of our water infrastructure with intention, ensuring that we can continue to enhance the quality and reliability of water in Flint.”

Jane Mager brings over 30 years of experience in corporate and non-profit accounting and leadership to the role of Acting Chief Financial Officer at the City of Flint.

Over a two-year period, this project will restore Saginaw St. brick-by-brick and upgrade all underground utilities from Court St. to the Flint River. This work will include the water main replacement, electrical upgrades, running conduits for lights and meters, as well as the replacement of two gas mains.

Twelve Flint residents have been appointed to serve on Flint’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Community Advisory Committee, including at least one representative from each ward. The committee will help evaluate ARPA community grant proposals and make award recommendations related to the $15.6 million available for community grants as part of the City of Flint’s overall allocation of ARPA funding.

St. John Street Historical Committee has partnered with the city to develop a vision for the park, commemorating the neighborhood that was demolished to make way for I-475 in the early 1970s. ACI Plastics unveiled a new, state-of-the-art recycled plastics processing facility in Flint. ACI Plastics will create 25-30 jobs to operate the new plant, with wages from $15-$25/hour.

The latest testing result is lower than the previous 6-month period result of 10 ppb for lead and remains below the federal action level of 15 ppb.

Free water filter units and replacement cartridges are available for Flint residents at Flint City Hall, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Residents can also pick up free water testing kits at the same location.
