Massive water giveaway set for Saturday 

FLINT, Michigan — Thousands of cases of water will be given away on Saturday (Dec. 21, 2019) through a partnership between three Flint churches, the AFGE union, and the City of Flint.

More than 100 pallets of bottled water are on their way to Flint now through the cooperative effort of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Prince of Peace Missionary Baptist Church, and Salem Lutheran Church as well as District 7 and Local 1626 of the American Federation of Government Employees.

Half of the water will be delivered to seniors and low-income housing areas in the city. The other half will be distributed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 21 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Volunteers are needed to help distribute the water.

Shiloh is located at 2120 N. Saginaw St. Those in need of water are asked to enter the Shiloh parking lot by taking North Street to the Newall Street entrance. Cars will then exit on Hamilton Avenue to limit traffic backups on Saginaw Street.

Volunteers are asked to arrive at 8 a.m. and can RSVP by emailing [email protected]. Refreshments and a recognition program are planned for 1 p.m. at Shiloh.

Shiloh, Prince of Peace and Salem Lutheran are among several churches and religious organizations serving Flint residents by maintaining water delivery programs, hosting water giveaways or offering water purification stations. “It has become a ministry for us,” said Pastor Daniel Moore of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.

Mayor Neeley thanked the Flint churches and AFGE for coming together to help the residents of Flint.

“This is what happens when a great minds, determined hearts and devoted people come together,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “I thank everyone involved for their commitment to the residents of Flint.”
