Flint residents can apply to receive a reduction on their property tax bills

Flint, Michigan–Flint residents who are having trouble paying their property taxes can apply for a poverty exemption to get relief from part or all of their bill.

Poverty exemptions are available every year for eligible, low-income homeowners. The deadline to apply this year is Dec. 13, 2021. The applications are reviewed by the City of Flint Board of Review.

“This administration is compassionate to the needs of our community. We understand that sometimes people need help and this is one way we can provide a bit of financial relief to those who need it most,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said.

Every city and township in Michigan offers a poverty exemption for residents’ primary home. A poverty exemption application is available here.
