$1 million to Rx Kids aims to address child poverty and health inequity

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley proposed and the Flint City Council approved a $1 million ARPA allocation to support a first-of-its-kind guaranteed income program for new mothers and babies in Flint.

This program, spearheaded by Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, aims to address the root causes of child poverty and health inequity.

All pregnant moms and all babies born in 2024 in the city of Flint will receive unconditional cash payments:
– $1500 one-time mid-pregnancy
– $500 per month for 12 months when the baby is born

The pilot program will serve approximately 1200 mothers per year, for a total of 6000 served over five years.
