Water Pollution Control Division: sanitary sewer overflow

FLINT, Mich. – July 11, 2022

On July 8, 2022 around 7:30 a.m., the City of Flint Water Pollution Control Facility had a sludge
overflow onto the ground and the surrounding pavement of our blended sludge storage tank.
The spill was contained around the tank, and there was no impact to the Flint River or the
surrounding environment. As a precautionary measure required by law, the State of Michigan
Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy and the Genesee County Health
Department have been notified.
