Mayor Submits Plan to Genesee County

The City of Flint took another major step in addressing the water emergency this afternoon. The Office of Mayor Karen Weaver submitted the Incident Action Plan to Genesee County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Office prior to the issue being on the agenda for the January meeting of the County Board of Commissioners.  This is a necessary step in requesting additional assistance for Flint, which is confronting an Emergency while in State receivership.

The Incident Action Plan is a required document that is generated by the Incident Response Team. This team was formed after the Mayor announced a State of Emergency on December 14, 2015. The team includes department heads, City Officials and key members of the staff. The Incident Response Plan is an initial framework outlining key steps that are necessary to address the causes and effects of the lead contamination in the City’s water. It includes both plans for immediate relief such as the distribution of water filters and long term solutions that seek to address the medical and infrastructural needs of the community.

“We are moving forward to ask for the assistance we need for the community. We need to take immediate action to keep the people of Flint out of harm’s way and help those who have been affected by this incident,” said the Mayor. The plan will be discussed at the next County Board of Commissioner’s meeting on Monday, January 4th at 9am.
