Flint Board of Education Petitions Available in the Flint City Clerk’s Office

Petitions for persons interested in seeking election to the Flint Board of Education are currently available in the Flint City Clerk’s Office, 2nd Floor, City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw Street. Three six-year terms that end in 2022, and one partial term ending in 2018 are available.

The terms of board members Ella Greene-Moton, Isaiah Oliver and Harold Woodson expire on Dec. 31, 2016. The fourth seat is currently held by Diana Wright, who was appointed in December 2015 after Roneeka Pleasant-Brown resigned earlier that year. As required in the board’s bylaws, Wright was appointed until the next regularly scheduled school board election. The winner of her seat will serve until Dec. 31, 2018, which is the expired portion of Pleasant-Brown’s term.

Interested candidates must file petitions with the City Clerk by 4 p.m. July 26, 2016. Each must get at least 40 valid signatures, but no more than 100, and pay a $100 non-refundable fee.

Candidates must be a citizen of the United States, not less than 18 years of age, a registered voter, a resident of the State of Michigan not less than 30 days, and a resident of the public school district of the City of Flint on or before the 30th day before the election.
