Flint Mayor Weaver Headed Back to Washington

(FLINT, Mich)— Mayor Karen Weaver is headed back to Washington, D.C. She will be in our nation’s capital Thursday for a follow up to her visit last month. This time, several members of the Mayor’s administration will join her to take part in discussions with White House officials.

Mayor Weaver was asked to bring along City staff members to continue discussions on ways the federal government can help to address the critical infrastructure needs in urban communities, especially as it relates to the distribution of safe, reliable, and affordable water. City of Flint employees including Director of Public Works, Rob Bincsik, Chief Finance Officer, Hughey Newsome, Chief Public Health Advisor, Dr. Pamela Pugh, and Interim Director of Planning and Development, Suzanne Wilcox are expected to attend.

“This is a significant step in our effort to communicate to White House officials what we still need in Flint to fully recover from the water crisis,” said Weaver. “As I’ve said before, while we continue working to rebuild our city, we also hope we can help make sure a similar disaster doesn’t happen some place else. Leaders must learn from what happened in Flint.”

Mayor Weaver and her team are scheduled to meet with the Deputy Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, Ja’Ron Smith, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, Scott Pruitt, among others while in Washington.

“I appreciate members of the new administration being willing to continue this conversation,” said Weaver. “I want the people of Flint to know that my team and I are fighting, and will keep fighting to get all the resources and supports we need to move Flint forward on the road to recovery.”
