Mayor Weaver Honored with Health Award at Congressional Black Caucus Conference

FLINT, MI– Mayor Karen Weaver was honored by the Black Women’s Agenda, Inc. (BWA), at their 41st Annual Symposium Luncheon held in Washington, DC on Friday, September 14, 2018. The organization honored Mayor Weaver for her continuous efforts during the Flint water crisis. BWA past President and Flint native, Vivian Pickard, presented the award to Mayor Weaver.

The Annual Symposium Luncheon was held during the annual Congressional Black Caucus Conference. The CBCF Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) is the leading policy conference on issues impacting African Americans and the global black community. Thought leaders, legislators and concerned citizens engage on economic development, civil and social justice, and public health and education issues.

In her acceptance speech, Flint Mayor, Dr. Karen W. Weaver, talked about how important it was for her to use her voice to make sure that what happened in Flint did not happen anywhere else in the country.

“As I stand here with great humility accepting this honor, I still need to use my voice for Flint, and the many other cities around this country with infrastructure issues. As well as, the many faces and places who are still waiting for fair and favorable access to services and care that should be an automatic and moral right without a crisis attached.”
