Mayor Weaver Appoints New City Attorney

(Flint, Mich) — Mayor Karen Weaver, has named Stacy Erwin Oakes Flint’s new City Attorney. Oakes will take over the position left vacant in December when Peter Bade resigned.

“Stacy is held in high regard by the legal community,” said Mayor Weaver. “She is a proven consumer protection advocate, and brings with her extensive knowledge of the legislative process and municipal government.”

Oakes, earned a degree from the Michigan State University College of Law while working for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights. She was later appointed to the Michigan Attorney General’s Office where she worked as an Assistant Attorney General. In 2010, Oakes became the first woman elected State Representative of Michigan’s 95th District where she served two terms.

“She is qualified, capable, and understands the needs of the people,” Mayor Weaver said. “I am confident that her skills and background will be greatly beneficial to our city.”

Oakes is well aware of the various issues Flint is facing. She said she is up for the challenge and ready to get to work for the residents of Flint.

“I am very excited to be able to serve a resilient and emerging community like Flint,” Oakes said. “I look forward to working with the City Council, City staff and the residents. My heart has always been in endeavors which benefit residents and consumers and their interests as they seek a better life and access to fair and lawful treatment in their everyday lives.”
