Mayor Weaver Expresses Thanks to All Who Helped Make 1st Annual Beautification Initiative a Success

Mayor Karen Weaver expresses great thanks and appreciation to all the volunteers who answered the call and took time out to participate in the 2017 Mayor’s Beautification Initiative. Because of the collaborative effort of residents, church groups, community partners and sponsors, the Community Cleanup held Saturday, June 17, was a tremendous success.

“As I looked around and saw so many people working together picking up trash, planting flowers and just doing what they could to take care of our city, it gave me a great feeling,” said Weaver. “We love Flint, this is our home. It’s up to us to keep it looking nice and also to ensure that the city thrives in other ways as well. Seeing everyone working together was great a reminder of what we can accomplish when we are united and working to achieve a common goal.”

As part of the first annual Mayor’s Beautification Initiative, residents were urged to adopt sections of Saginaw Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. within the city limits, to help keep these main thoroughfares well maintained.

After the Community Cleanup, volunteers took part in a Community Celebration held on the lawn of Flint City Hall. Some residents received awards for going above and beyond to make their home/lawn look its best. Organizers are hoping participants reflect on all they accomplished, and the positive effects taking pride in the community can have, and continue the effort throughout the year. They look forward to making the clean up a yearly tradition in the City of Flint.
