Mayor Weaver Announces New Jobs for Flint Residents as part of Enhanced C.O.R.E. program

job-fair-info-flint-water-filter-education-specialist December 5, 2016 (FLINT, Mich) — Mayor Weaver helped announce Friday the expansion of the state’s Community Outreach and Resident Education program also know as CORE. The plan is to hire about 160 Flint residents who will go door to door around the city to provide citizens of Flint with information on how to properly use and maintain filters in their home and inform them of resources available to help fulfill their water recovery needs along with nutrition and medical support available.

“We are collaborating with our community partners to help with a recruiting campaign to get residents hired and a communications component to make sure residents are informed on what to expect moving forward,” said Mayor Weaver. ” We know that members of the community can heal the community.  And that’s why I believe it’s important that Flint residents play a critical role in the recovery and rebuilding of our city. We still have a ways to go, but we must be forward thinking on how we move ahead.  The CORE program is a piece of the larger goal to make sure Flint residents have access to clean drinking water.”

George Kristian with the Michigan Department of Environmental Equality also works as a Flint Action Plan coordinator with the CORE program. He spoke about the door to door initiative and how it will be expanded to provide resources and information.

Wanda Stokes spoke on behalf of the Talent Investment Agency. She explained the effort to get people on the job is now underway and will start with six coordinators being hired this month. The hiring will be done through GST Michigan Works! and their goal is to hire Flint residents to fill the available positions that will pay between $12 to $15 per hour.

Those interested in applying for a position as a Flint Water Filter Education Liaison as part of the CORE program expansion should send a resume to [email protected] and put “Filter Education Liaison” in the subject line. Resumes may also be delivered to Suite 325A at GST Michigan Works. Questions may be directed to: Lumetta Parker-Smith at (810) 233-5974, ext. 170.
