Cheers Market loses liquor license as a result of petition by Flint Police Department 

FLINT, Mich.— August 22, 2022

Cheers Market on Flint’s west side has had its liquor license revoked by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission as a result of a petition by the City of Flint Police Department.

“This is just another example of the Flint Police Department taking residents’ issues seriously,” Detective Tyrone Booth said. “We will continue to investigate and bring action against businesses that are not operating within the guidelines of the law.”

The FPD opened an investigation based on many community complaints alleging that Cheers Market has been selling alcohol to minors. The investigation determined the complaints to be true after conducting several controlled buys with underage individuals who were able to purchase alcohol from Cheers Market. As a result, the Flint Police Department petitioned the Michigan Liquor Control Commission to revoke Cheers Market’s liquor license.

“Businesses that sell alcohol to minors not only violate the law, but they damage the fabric of our community,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “It takes a village to raise a child, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to look out for the health and safety of our youth. Businesses that put profit before community welfare are not welcome here.”

Cheers Market is located at 2809 W Court St. in Flint. The business can remain open and sell other items, but they can no longer sell any items with alcohol content.
