City of Flint September 16, 2021 Update: Secondary Water Pipeline

FLINT, MI — Officials from the City of Flint Department of Public Works began facilitating the 95 percent primary water supply and 5 percent secondary water supply (Genesee County Drain Commission/GCDC) on Monday, August 23, 2021, and are planning to increase these increments during the week of September 12, 2021.

Update:

• Phase II of the incremental water increase of 25 percent to the secondary water supply Genesee County Drain Commission (GCDC) and 75 percent to the primary water supply (Great Lakes Water Authority/GLWA) has been postponed a week at minimum, due to a delay in securing required permits to conduct electrical work relating to the Frances Road construction project.

• It has been determined that the pipe settling on the secondary water pipeline requires repair from pressure caused by equipment.

• The City of Flint expects the permit, inspection, and pipe settling for the secondary water pipeline to be completed by mid-next week.

• The current water increment of 95 percent and 5 percent to the secondary water pipeline is stable and is expected to remain stable as additional work is completed.

• All protocols are in adherence with the State of Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act and the City’s agreement with its primary water supplier, GLWA, will continue to be followed.

The City of Flint will continue to provide residents with updates on water infrastructure projects as information becomes available.

Important reminders for residents:

•  Additional monitoring will take place during the incremental water increase process, valve replacement work on the primary water delivery system (GLWA), and during all major infrastructure projects. Monitoring results are available on the State of Michigan’s website at www.michigan.gov/flintwater.

• Informational meetings and open public comment will continue to be scheduled to provide residents with updates on ongoing and future water infrastructure projects, which are also posted on the City of Flint’s webpage at www.cityofflint.com/progressreport.

• For water emergencies or issues with water service, residents can call (810) 766-7202 for water and (810) 766-7079 for sewer. This line is monitored 24 hours a day.
