Flint Firefighters Featured in 2018 Calendar, Proceeds go to Scholarships for Local Students

(Flint, Mich)– Leaders and officials of the City of Flint are always looking to give back to the community and residents they serve. With City finances often stretched thin, officials are forced to come up with creative ways to raise money to help others and make a difference in their lives.

With dozens of new firefighters and trainees added to the Flint fire department this year, Sgt. Carrie Edwards-Clemons, Emergency Medical Services Coordinator for the Flint Fire Department, decided to show off them off. Several firefighters, including Chief Ray Barton, are featured in a 2018 calendar available now.

All proceeds from the calendars will benefit the Davis-Dixon Scholarship Fund. The scholarship is named after the City of Flint’s first African American hired into the Flint Fire Department, Joe Davis, and the City’s first African American Fire Chief, Sam Dixon. Scholarships are awarded each year in March to selected high school seniors in the Flint community who submit an application and essay.

Donations of $15 for the calendars will be accepted at the Flint Firefighters’ Union Office located on Stevens Street. Scholarship applications and information on application requirements may be obtained by emailing [email protected]. The Davis-Dixon Scholarship application period is from March 1, 2018 through March 31, 2018.
