Mayor Weaver Issues Statement on What More is Needed for Flint to Succeed

January 24, 2018 (FLINT, Mich) A day after Gov. Rick Snyder included Flint’s water issues and new standards in his State of the State address, Flint Mayor Karen Weaver today noted in a statement that much more remains to be done.

“The one point I continue to make is that, while the lead levels in the city’s drinking water are back to safe levels, there is so much more to be done to help Flint live up to its full potential,” Mayor Weaver said.

“I’m encouraged by signs that the city is improving. We’ve welcomed businesses such as Lear Corporation bringing good jobs to Flint, and we’ve made good progress toward removing all the lead-tainted service lines through my FAST Start program. We are looking for even more partnerships with educators, job providers and the state of Michigan to make sure every resident has the opportunity to succeed in Flint. It’s important that lawmakers and policymakers in Lansing don’t forget what happened in our city, and that we work together to continue to make things right by the people of Flint for years to come.”
