Governor Snyder Approves $30 Million Plan to Help Flint Residents with Water Bills

February 24, 2016 (FLINT)– Gov. Rick Snyder issued the following statement regarding today’s final passage of his proposed $30 million plan to help cover a portion of Flint residents’ water bills:

“The Legislature’s approval of this $30 million plan to assist with Flint residents with water bills is a testament to the state’s continued commitment to helping during this crisis. I thank my partners in the House and Senate for their unanimous support and swift action.

“The safety and well-being of Flint families remains our top priority. Our plan is to provide credits, covering the cost of water used for drinking, cooking and bathing. We’ll work with city leaders on how these credits are applied.”

According to the website the money will be used to credit residents for 65% of the water portion of their bill from April 2014 on future water bills, a 20% credit will be provided for businesses – This percentage of water covers drinking, cooking and bathing.

In response to news of the signed bill, Mayor Weaver stated, “the $30 million is much appreciated. As I have said before, it’s a step in the right direction. We look forward to continuing the dialogue and negotiations with the governor in effort to bring the additional resources needed to resuscitate our City.”
