Flint Fire Department receives grant awards to promote fire safety education, protect firefighters from COVID-19

FLINT, Michigan – The City of Flint is proud to announce the awarding of two grants to the Flint Fire Department to provide fire safety education in the community and to purchase decontamination equipment.

The 100 Club of Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer Counties awarded $2,600 to the Flint Fire Department to purchase multiple decontamination systems that use ultraviolet light to disinfect N95 masks and other equipment.

Also The Hartford awarded a grant of $5,000 to support the Flint Fire Department’s fire safety education and related programming. The one-year grant can be spent on such items as free smoke detectors for residents and open house events for the community. In awarding the grant, The Hartford specifically thanked the Flint Fire Department for its partnership with the company’s Junior Fire Marshal program and its commitment to fire safety education.

“These grants will help to not only keep our community safe through continued fire education, but will also protect our firefighters from the spread of COVID-19,” said Flint Fire Chief Ray Barton. “We thank both The Hartford and the 100 Club of Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer Counties for recognizing the value of investing in Flint firefighters and our community’s well being.”
