May Water Testing Results Show All Locations are within Acceptable Limits for TTHM

Water sampling for the month of May has been collected and testing by the State Laboratory has been completed. All testing sites in the city are again below the maximum contamination level (MCL) for total trihalomethanes (TTHM). Due to the high levels experienced last year, the area for one of the testing locations is still above the average and will  require a notice. Once the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) finalizes their notice and formally issues it to the City, this notice will be mailed to water customers at the beginning of July or soon thereafter.

In relation to the TTHM issue, the Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC) filter system is on schedule to be installed in July, well ahead of the next scheduled quarterly water quality report. The GAC is designed to remove organic carbon from the water. By reducing the total organic carbon, the formation of trihalomethanes is also reduced.
