New Hours for Community Water Resource Sites Starting October 24

October 17, 2016 (FLINT, Mich) – With the days getting shorter and temperatures dropping, all Community Water Resource Sites in the city of Flint will change hours to ensure the safety of residents and workers during the late fall and winter seasons.

Beginning on Monday, Oct. 24, residents in need of bottled water, water filters, replacement cartridges and at-home water testing kits can pick up supplies between noon and 6 p.m. from Monday to Saturday at any of the nine water resource sites. All locations will continue to be closed on Sunday.

“Changing hours will help us effectively distribute water resources to Flint residents when we have the most daylight and highest temperatures,” said Capt. Chris A. Kelenske, Deputy State Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and commander of the Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division. “Until the water meets quality standards, necessary water resources will be supplied to Flint water system customers through these sites.”

 St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 3020 DuPont St. (Ward 2)

 Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St. (Ward 3)

 Franklin Avenue Lot, 2804 N. Franklin Ave. (Ward 4)

 Old Flint Farmers’ Market, 420 E. Boulevard Drive (Ward 5)

 West Court Street Church of God, 2920 W. Court St. (Ward 6)

 Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center, 3501 Lapeer Road (Ward 7)

 Lincoln Park United Methodist Church, 3410 Fenton Road (Ward 8)

 Eastown Bowling Alley, 3001 S. Dort Highway (Ward 9)

Currently, the hours of operations for these community sites are:

 Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday: Noon – 6 p.m.

 Tuesday and Friday: Noon – 8 p.m.

 Sunday: Closed

 Monday through Saturday: Noon – 6 p.m.

 Sunday: Closed

Individuals who are homebound or have access or functional needs are encouraged to call United Way 2-1-1 to schedule a rapid response delivery.

Every Community Water Resource Site also accepts water supply recycling. Residents can drop off empty water bottles and used cartridges at all nine locations.

Since Jan. 9, through Water Response Teams and Water Resource Sites, more than 3.1 million cases of bottled water; more than 140,200 water filters; more than 304,500 replacement cartridges; and more than 55,300 at-home water testing kits have been distributed to Flint water system customers.

Under a consensus of local, state, federal and outside experts, water filters are effective in removing lead from water. All populations may consume filtered water, including pregnant women and children under 6. Residents are encouraged to use their water as much as possible to prevent standing water and to reduce the risk of contaminants in the system.
