Mayor Neeley pleads for swift action from council regarding $300 water credit for residents following stalled response

FLINT, Mich. – July 21, 2022

After a second delay in voting to approve an $8,600,000 allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funding toward water bill credits, Mayor Sheldon Neeley pleads for urgency in providing relief for residents. “It is unfortunate that Flint City Council chose to delay the benefit of water credits for the residents of Flint,” said the mayor.

The resolution was initially placed in front of Council on June 14, 2022, during the presentation of the administration’s ARPA plan. “This is something that residents requested during community engagement sessions on how to spend the ARPA funds.  I’m hopeful that Council will move with some level of urgency to provide this requested financial relief to Flint residents.”

City Council tabled the resolution and is expected to discuss it again at their meeting scheduled the first week of August. Some of those in attendance at the July 20 meeting also expressed urgency in approving the matter, some called for more.
