Flint Kids Invited to “Read with a Cop”

(Flint, Mich)– The UM-Flint Department of Public Safety has launched a new community initiative.  The “Read with a Cop” summer program begins July 5th and will run through the end of the summer.  Each Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., Officers from UM-Flint DPS will read with children at the River Village Townhouses, located at 5th Avenue and Saginaw Street, behind Family Dollar. Children 5-10 years old, are invited to participate in each Wednesday.

Another exciting component of the program is the “Little Free Library”, which will be housed on site at the River Village Townhouses and accessible to the kids 24/7.  Books are still needed, for various reading levels from kindergarten through middle school. Book donations may be dropped off at the DPS offices located in the Hubbard Building, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Book Donation boxes are also located in the lobby of the William S. White building, the University Pavilion, and the Theater on the UM-Flint campus. Share your favorite story to area children and drop off a book at your convenience!
