PROCESS: How properties are sold by the City of Flint

Properties for sale are announced in a local paper. City staff must wait at least 7 days from the listing date before advancing any application for approval.

Any property that is available for sale to the general public is listed on this webpage.

The properties are not currently available for showing. When they are, it will be posted here. Preference in review will be given to owner occupants. To that end, the City will hold a lien of the property during the terms of a transfer agreement. Additionally, if it is found that a winning bidder marked owner/occupant and subsequently does not occupy the property as their primary residence, then there will be fines and penalties due as agreed to in the property transfer documents.

Owner occupants will have 120 days to bring the property up to code. If they fail to do so, but have made substantial progress (i.e. 50% or more of the work needed has been completed, as measured by the cost) then they may receive an additional 60 days. If not, the property will be foreclosed on and offered to the next bidder in line.

Commercial bidders will have 90 days to bring the property up to code. If they fail to do so, but have made substantial progress (i.e. 50% or more of the work needed has been completed, as measured by cost) then they may receive an additional 30 days.

Closing: Winning bidders must make an earnest money deposit of $1,000 within 14 days and close within 30. If they fail to make either deadline the property will be offered to the next bidder.
