Mayor Neeley provides latest information on the November 22, 2021 Explosion 

FLINT, Michigan — The City of Flint continues to work with local community organizations, faith-based facilities, businesses, and surrounding public safety municipalities to help with family resources and recovery efforts related to the November 22 explosion on Hogarth Avenue.

Latest

• The impacted area is still under investigation at this time. The Michigan State Police arson division , who is leading the investigation, is working with insurance companies to secure the blast zone to determine a cause for the explosion. 

• Hogarth Avenue will be cleared of debris as the investigation has now been isolated to the blast zone only. Michigan State Police have requested that debris in the street be placed temporarily on lawns to be available to the incident investigators if necessary. Debris will not be placed on private driveways and will be removed from lawns upon completion of the investigation. 

• City of Flint’s Division of Transportation Infrastructure personnel is removing debris from Hogarth Avenue this week. The street will remain closed to traffic until debris removal is complete. The estimated completion date is Thursday, January 6, 2022. 

• The Hogarth Avenue explosion area 24/7 private security will end once the street reopens. Private security had been in place since November 2021 while homes were being secured and the street remained closed. Flint Police patrol operations will continue monitoring the area as they have been since the first day of the explosion.

• Utilities were shut off at 21 homes. Water, gas, and electricity have been restored to eight homes, five homes have been condemned, with the remaining eight to have all utilities restored after Building and Safety Department (BSI) inspections.

• November 22 Flint Home Explosion Fund (as of 1/4/22)

Monetary donations continue to pour into the fund set up by United Way. To date, the fund has received over $67,000 from over 300 donors. The City of Flint has created a resources and needs form to continue allocating funds to the list of residents affected by the explosion. Those residents will be contacted directly. 

Total Donations: $67,763.22

CS Mott Foundation donation for home repairs: $25,000

Meijer Gift Card to families: $6,750

Remaining undesignated funds: $36,013.22

Genesee Health Systems 24/7/365 Virtual Urgent Care and Crisis Lines are available for any resident. Residents can call 810-496-5500 for the Behavioral Health Urgent Care and 810-257-3740 for Crisis calls.

Community members wanting to make essential items donations, can contact the following community partners:

1. Catholic Charities at (810) 232-9950. Catholic Charities is helping families with finding housing.
2. Hand of God Ministries at (810) 766-9278. Hand of God Ministries is also looking for volunteers to service those in need.

We encourage all residents affected by the explosion to call the City of Flint Public Health Office at 810-410-2020. Family resources are available for shelter, food, clothing, mental health assistance, housing vouchers, and other essential needs. Please give your name, phone number, address, and service needed. The Public Health Office phone line is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
