Mayor Neeley celebrates Juneteenth becoming federal holiday

With President Biden preparing to make Juneteenth an federal holiday today, Mayor Sheldon Neeley today released the following statement:

“The City of Flint is proud to have been a leader in the fight to make Juneteenth an officially recognized holiday. We came together last year to ensure this day would be forever recognized in the City of Flint as an official holiday celebrating African-American history and heritage. Today, President Biden is stepping up to ensure our entire country memorializes this day and the end of slavery by declaring Juneteenth a federal holiday. Our country still has lots of work to do to truly ensure liberty and justice for all, but seeing our country follow our lead to give Juneteenth the respect it deserves gives me hope for better tomorrows. Coming together is a start. Working together is progress. Staying together is success.”
