FLINT, Michigan — Flint residents have less than one week remaining to register for the Flint Water Settlement to receive a portion of the $641.2 million available. Residents also have the option of opting out of the settlement.

“It is important that residents review all options and make the decision that is right for their family,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “While no amount of money will make up for what happened to us, this settlement will provide compensation for children, adults, and businesses impacted by the Flint water crisis.”

All registrations must be postmarked or submitted online at officialflintwatersettlement.com by March 29, 2021.

Registration instructions and forms were mailed to all Flint households. That information also is available online at officialflintwatersettlement.com. Residents with questions should either contact their attorney or a help line has been set up through the court to provide information. It can be contacted by calling 1-800-493-1754 or emailing [email protected]

The City of Flint contributed $20 million to the settlement to benefit the residents of the City of Flint. It was paid for entirely by the city’s insurance carrier.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• The City of Flint expects to complete the service line replacement project this summer and is more than 90 percent complete with its service line replacement project.

• Water lines have been excavated at almost 27,000 households. Of those, more than 9,900 lead or galvanized steel service lines were replaced. The others were safe, copper lines and were not replaced. Crews estimate that fewer than 500 homes are left to be checked.

• Other major infrastructure improvements also are under way including construction of the secondary water line, renovating and expanding its water reservoirs, building a backup water source, constructing a new chemical feed building, replacing water mains, and installing new household water meters.
