FLINT, Mich. — The City of Flint Fire Department in conjunction with the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society, American Red Cross, International Association of Black Professional Firefighters (IABPFF) and the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) will be walking and knocking on doors seeking opportunities to install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in the homes of local residents on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

“We want to make sure that residents are safe and have a way to be alerted should any possible dangers arise in their homes,” said Fire Chief, Raymond Barton. “We take our responsibility for the safety of residents very seriously. We are taking the time to make sure that they are not only warned in the event of a fire within their home, but also in the event that there is carbon monoxide present as well.”

Smoke alarms are being provided free to the community through donations from the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society, American Red Cross, the IABPFF and the IAFF.  Carbon monoxide detectors are being provided by the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society as part of their Community Risk Reduction (CRR) program to decrease the number of fire deaths, injuries and property loss in Michigan communities.

“It is important that we take every measure to ensure the safety and well-being of every resident in Flint,” said Flint Mayor, Karen Weaver. “We are doing everything we can to do this, from re-opening fire station #8, to having our firefighters out in the neighborhoods personally installing detectors.”

Volunteers are needed! Bring your drill and step ladder with you to Fire Station #6, 716 W. Pierson Rd.

Meeting time at 8:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided for volunteers.
