Mayor Weaver’s Statement on General Motors (GM) Layoffs

Flint, MI (12/14/18)- General Motors (GM) announced plans to end production at U.S. factories and one in Canada as a part of their restructuring plan to cut costs and divert resources to develop and manufacture trucks, SUV’s and electric autonomous vehicles.

GM will close 4 U.S. plants next year, but most employees will be able to find employment at 8 other GM factories where jobs are being added. Flint Mayor, Karen Weaver, released the following statement:

“I learned in a statement released today, that General Motors plans to end production at 4 of its factories in the United States. We certainly understand how devastating it can be to find yourself without employment. The City of Flint welcomes any of the workers from the closing facilities to apply to the GM plant here. Flint is thriving and growing, anyone who would like to be a part of our resurgence is welcome to our community.”
