Mayor, Community and State Leaders Attend Grand Opening of New School for Flint Kids

(Flint, Mich)– On Monday, December 11, 2017, Mayor Karen Weaver joined local and state leaders at the grand opening of Educare Flint. Located at 1000 Gladwyn Street, the 3,600 square foot facility is a new state-of-the-art school for Flint’s youngest residents. The goal of Educare Flint is to expand early learning opportunities for children from birth to age five.

Mayor Weaver said the new school is yet another positive development happening in the Flint community that we all can be proud of.

“This is what not only our kids need, but what they deserve,” said Weaver. “Events like this are proof that the City of Flint is recovering and starting to regain some of the momentum we had going before the water crisis hit. We have new jobs coming. We are working to improve our infrastructure. And now we have this beautiful new school, with programs that will contribute to the early education of all children in Flint.”

Dozens attended the grand opening including leaders like Congressman Dan Kildee, state senator Jim Ananich, and Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley. All were very impressed with the facility which organizers said wouldn’t be possible without the support of community partners such as the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and Community Foundation of Greater Flint.

Educare began in Chicago in the year 2000, and has grown to now a network of 23 facilities. Educare Flint, is the newest and largest of the learning facilities located across the United States.

“Flint has become a beacon of hope for young children and families,” said Cynthia Jackson, senior vice president, Educare Learning Network. “Your city has become a model for what can happen when leaders make smart decisions to invest in their communities and children.”

Educare Flint is now accepting applications for enrollment in its free (income-based), high-quality early learning education school for Flint infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Call 591-KIDS for more information.
