Flint Mayor, City Officials Urge Residents to Join Community Cleanup Effort Saturday, June 17

(Flint, Mich)—  Flint Mayor Karen Weaver, members of her administration, and Rep. Phil Phelps held a press conference Monday to provide details on an effort underway to help make the City of Flint more beautiful. The goal of the first annual Mayor’s Beautification Initiative and Awards is to get Flint residents to join together to clean up designated areas around the city and to recognize residents have gone above and beyond to make their home/lawn look its best. Weaver urged residents to get involved and take part in the Community Cleanup planned for Saturday, June 17, 2017.

“Flint is a special place to many of us,” said Mayor Weaver. “We want the city to reflect the pride we have for Flint. We must work together to make the City of Flint be the best it can be. With limited staff and funds, city officials and employees cannot do it alone.”

Mayor Weaver is urging the Flint community to team up and adopt sections of Saginaw Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. within the city limits to help keep these highly traveled city streets well maintained and free of trash and debris.

How to get involved:
The initiative will kick off with a Community Cleanup Saturday, June 17, 2017. Leaders want residents to form teams of neighbors, family members and/or community groups and adopt a block along Saginaw Street or Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The cleanup will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. followed by a Community Celebration at Flint City Hall from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Residents interested in participating simply need to sign up and claim the block they want to adopt and spruce up. To sign up, contact Joel Arnold at (810) 237-2090, or [email protected]
