Many churches, community leaders and centers are coming together a little early this week to celebrate Thanksgiving and make sure others have a wonderful and tasty holiday. Tuesday, Mayor Weaver took time out to help greet and serve Flint residents at the 36th Annual Thanksgiving Lunch for seniors hosted by Genesee County Commissioner Brenda Clack and her husband Floyd at Foss Avenue Baptist Church.

While it is unfortunate that the City of Flint is still dealing with the ongoing effects of the devastating man-made water disaster, things in the city are gradually improving. Since Mayor Weaver declared a State of Emergency last December, the state and federal government has stepped in to help.

There are now several Water Distribution Sites located around the city where residents can go to receive free bottled water, filters and filter replacement cartridges. The Mayor’s FAST Start pipe replacement program has begun and crews are on track to have pipes at 1,000 Flint homes replaced by the end of this year and plan to replace thousands more in 2017. Two new Help Centers opened this week to provide Flint families with food, bottled water and other resources free of charge.

There is still much more that needs to be done to move Flint forward on the road to recovery, but progress is being made in the city and that’s something to be thankful for.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS!
