Mayor Weaver Signs Emergency Declaration to Renew State of Emergency in Flint due to Water Crisis

renewal-of-emergency-declaration  November 14, 2016 (FLINT, Mich) — Flint Mayor Karen Weaver has signed an Emergency Declaration to renew the State of Emergency in the City of Flint due to the ongoing effects of the man-made water disaster. The declaration she signed last year is set to expire November 14, 2016, however the water in Flint has yet to be deemed safe to use without a filter.

Mayor Weaver feels this is a civil rights and public health issue that must remain a top priority and is calling on City Council, as well as County, State and Federal leaders to support the renewal of the Emergency Declaration until it has been determined that the water in Flint is safe for children and adults who live and work in the City to drink and use straight from the tap.

“While the quality of our water in Flint is gradually improving, health officials still can’t say the water is safe for people to use without a filter or when it will be, and if that isn’t an emergency I don’t know what is,” said Mayor Weaver. “We need our leaders to continue supporting and fighting for the people of Flint to help us get the resources needed to replace all of the lead-tainted pipes in the City and repair the infrastructure left severely damaged as a result of the water crisis.”
