Flint, Mich — Mayor Karen Weaver helped make a major announcement today about the 2016 HealthPlus Crim Festival of Races in Flint. For the first time in the race’s 40 year history the Crim will allocate $40,000, previously earmarked as prize dollars, for race admission scholarships to Flint residents who may not have been able to participate in this year’s race.

The theme of this year’s race is “I Crim for Flint”. Organizers are hoping to boost morale and get more residents involved and focused on something positive in the midst of the city’s ongoing water crisis.

“The goal is to have more Flint residents involved in the race this year to make the race bigger than ever,” said Christina Ferris Development Director of the Crim Fitness Foundation.

Mayor Weaver sais it’s exciting to see that people continue to find ways to show support for Flint.

“We’ve got great things happening in Flint. Our city is filled with resilient people and this shows it,” said Mayor Weaver.

Healthy eating, living and exercise have been identified as key actions to help mitigate the consequences of lead exposure. That’s why race Crim organizers are urging people to Crim for Flint.

“This year we all need to Crim for Flint. A call to take personal responsibility for your own health and our community,” commented Andy Young Crim Race Director.

Mayor Weaver commended the Crim Fitness Foundation for making a bold move to help Flint residents as we work to recover from the water crisis.

“I guess we’re going to Crim and move people through these difficult times. So come on everybody, get involved and Crim for Flint,” said Mayor Weaver.

The race is scheduled for August 26 and 27 in Flint.
