Mayor Weaver’s Response to DOJ Investigation Announcement

Flint, MI — January 5, 2016 — “I’m not surprised.” That’s Mayor Dr. Karen Weaver’s response to news that federal attorneys with the Department of Justice have launched an investigation into the water situation in the City of Flint.

“People need to be held accountable for what’s happened in this City because we have been impacted significantly. I’m glad Washington is paying attention,” said Weaver.

The announcement of the investigation comes one day after The Genesee County Board of Commissioners voted to support Mayor Weaver’s State of Emergency declaration in the City of Flint in response to the man-made disaster caused by the City’s switch to the Flint River as a water source in 2014, a move that has resulted in elevated lead levels in drinking water in the City of Flint.
