City of Flint yard waste collection begins April 5, 2021

FLINT, Michigan — Yard waste collection will start up again the week of April 5, 2021, for residents in the City of Flint. Yard waste is picked up weekly on residents’ normal trash collection days through Thanksgiving week.

“Spring is here and it’s always great to see the whole city come into bloom,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “Let’s all pitch in to make our neighborhoods beautiful.”

A separate truck collects yard waste on the same day as residents’ regularly scheduled trash day. Compost materials should be placed at the curb at least 10 feet from regular trash no later than 7 a.m. on pickup day.

Compost is limited to 50 pounds in each brown paper lawn and leaf bag. Acceptable materials include grass clippings, weeds, leaves, twigs and. Brush can be up to 2 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length, tied in bundles not to exceed 50 pounds.

Trash Collection Helpful Information

Regular Trash Collection

Trash will be collected from the curb on paved streets, at the edge of the roadway on unpaved streets.

Approved Containers:

• Rigid metal or plastic cans with tight fitting covers.
• Tightly sealed plastic bags not less than 10 gallons or more than 32 gallons in size.

Maximum Weight
50 lbs. No container or bundle weighing in excess of 50 lbs. will be collected.

Bulk (1 item limit per week)

• Furniture
• Rolled/tied carpeting (4ft. length, 50 lbs. limit)
• Appliances which do not contain refrigerants
• Appliances from which refrigerants are removed by a certified technician and labeled

Preparing the Trash

• Wet kitchen waste must be drained and all garbage must be wrapped before being placed in a container.
• Animal waste should be drained and wrapped.
• Newspapers and magazines not recyclable may be securely tied in bundles not to exceed six (6) bundles and not to weigh more than 50 lbs.
PLEASE NOTE: No chemicals on bags or in bags.

One (1) bulk items per week
Regular trash collection: Maximum 20 bags/cans/bundles

Trash must be set out by 7:00 am on the scheduled day (see map) but no earlier than 7:00 pm on the prior evening. Earlier placement is a violation of City Ordinance.

Starts: Second week in April

Ends: Last week in November

A separate truck collects yard waste on the same day of your regularly scheduled solid waste collection day. Please place compost materials at the curb – 10 ft. apart from regular waste, no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection.

Approved containers: Brown paper lawn and leaf bags or an approved container not weighing over 50 lbs.

Note: Due to the weight of compost (grass), please remember the weight limit of 50 lbs per bag or can.
