Summer Youth Employment Program Concludes with a Professional Development Bootcamp

The City of Flint proudly celebrated the successful completion of its Summer Youth Employment Program with the “Level Up for Success” Youth Professional Development Bootcamp, a full-day experience that equipped young people with the confidence, communication skills, and workplace readiness needed for future success.

The bootcamp served as the culminating event for students who participated in the City’s Summer Youth Employment Program, celebrating the accomplishments they achieved throughout the summer while preparing them for their next job, internship, apprenticeship, or college opportunity.

Held as an interactive day of learning, the bootcamp focused on strengthening the professional skills employers value most; including communication, teamwork, confidence, leadership, and personal responsibility. Rather than traditional classroom instruction, students participated in engaging activities that encouraged collaboration, self-reflection, and personal growth.

Participants rotated through hands-on professional development sessions focused on business communication, maximizing their unique strengths, and vision boarding to help define and visualize their future goals. Throughout the day, students also participated in team-building activities and networking opportunities that challenged them to build meaningful connections while developing the confidence to succeed beyond their summer employment experience.

Throughout the day, students:

  • Strengthened their professional communication and workplace etiquette.
  • Built confidence by identifying their personal strengths and leadership potential.
  • Learned strategies for teamwork, accountability, and professional responsibility.
  • Created vision boards that reflected their future educational and career aspirations.
  • Expanded their professional networks while collaborating with peers, City staff, and community partners.
  • Prepared for future employment, internships, and post-secondary opportunities through interactive learning experiences.

The event’s primary focus was to foster confidence, communication, and teamwork while creating a supportive environment where every participant felt encouraged to grow personally and professionally.
