Flint Expands Team Working on Long-Term Water Stability Plan

FLINT, Mich. — A third partner has been added to ongoing efforts to develop a long-term water stability plan for Flint. Flint School Board member Dylan Luna joins Mayor Sheldon Neeley and City Council Finance Chair Judy Priestley as they work to create a plan that supports safe, sustainable drinking water while helping keep water rates affordable for Flint residents.

In recent years, the city has used ARPA funding to help offset significant increases in water rates from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), but this is only a temporary solution.

Luna, who serves as the school board treasurer, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the effort. Born and raised in Flint, he earned a degree in public policy from Michigan State University. He also holds a master’s degree in urban education from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and an MBA from the University of Michigan–Flint. Most recently, he was appointed to the Flint Planning Commission.

Mayor Sheldon Neeley emphasized the importance of collaboration and long-term planning.

“This is about securing Flint’s future,” said Mayor Neeley. “Bringing the right people to the table is a critical step in that process.”

City Council Finance Chair Judy Priestley underscored the urgency of the work ahead.

“By bringing together dedicated leaders with deep roots in our community, we are taking meaningful steps toward a sustainable solution that protects residents today and for generations to come,” said Priestley.
