Flint Expands Access to Addiction and Mental Health Care With $500,000 Opioid Settlement Investment

FLINT, Mich. — The City of Flint awarded $500,000 in opioid settlement funding to Insight Health System to support the expansion of its specialized Medical Psychiatric Hospital at 4400 S. Saginaw Street.

The funds will help support the next phase of the project, expanding the facility from 19 operational medical psychiatric inpatient beds to a planned total of 70 licensed beds serving individuals experiencing co-occurring medical, psychiatric, and substance use disorders.

“This investment reflects our commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through treatment, recovery, and long-term support for individuals and families impacted by addiction,” said Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “These funds are being directed toward services that will save lives and strengthen behavioral healthcare access in Flint.”

Mayor Sheldon Neeley presented the funding during a press conference on Monday, June 8.

The facility provides inpatient psychiatric stabilization, substance use disorder treatment, medication-assisted treatment, therapy services, and coordinated recovery planning for patients with complex behavioral health and medical needs.

“The City of Flint continues to strategically invest opioid settlement funding into programs and infrastructure that address the long-term impact of the opioid epidemic on the community,” Mayor Neeley said.
