City of Flint bids a fond farewell to City Attorney William Kim

The City of Flint announced the upcoming departure of City Attorney William Kim today. His resignation is effective July 26.

“I wish Attorney Kim the very best in his new position and thank him for his service to the residents of Flint,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said. “Mr. Kim has helped guide the City of Flint through turbulent times over the past 9 years, and I congratulate him on the next step in his career. We continue to cultivate talented individuals at the City of Flint, and I am confident that we will continue to attract top talent, based on the foundation of success laid by our current and former staff.”

Per the Flint City Charter, Chief Deputy City Attorney Joseph Kuptz will become Acting City Attorney upon the departure of William Kim. The City of Flint will post the City Attorney position and seek applicants both internally and externally.

Mr. Kim started at the City of Flint as an Assistant City Attorney in 2015. He was appointed City Attorney in April 2022.

In a resignation letter addressed to Mayor Neeley and the Flint City Council, Attorney Kim wrote, “”I am proud of the progress made by the City of Flint in general, and the Law Department in particular, in positioning the City for success over the next decades.”
