Mayor Neeley reminds residents of safe Halloween trick-or-treating options in Flint

FLINT, Michigan—Mayor Sheldon Neeley is urging residents to follow all safety protocols when trick-or-treating this Halloween. 

Families are especially encouraged to look for non-traditional trick-or-treating options that institute additional safety protocols. Mayor Neeley is co-hosting events with five community organizations to provide alternative trick-or-treating locations for Flint families. 

“We want to allow our children to celebrate Halloween in a safe way. Because we are seeing an increase in the number of COVID cases, extreme caution must be utilized,” Mayor Neeley said. 

Some locations hosting events that will follow safety protocols include:

• • Noon in Sarvis Park, 4000 Wisner Street. Candy hunt and parade hosted by Sarvis Park Neighborhood Association. 
• • 4:30-5:30 p.m. at Latinx Technology and Community Center, 2101 Lewis St.
• • 4:30-6 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1309 N. Ballenger Highway.
• • 4:30-6 p.m. at Flint Development Center, 4121 Martin Luther King Ave.
• • 5:30-7 p.m. at Berston Field House, 3300 N. Saginaw St., in partnership with state Rep. Cynthia Neeley and County Commissioner Bryant Nolden.

Trick-or-treating hours citywide are 4:30-7 p.m. on Oct. 31. Again, Mayor Neeley encourages all families to limit their exposure and maintain all safety protocols throughout any and all Halloween celebrations.

• • Always stay 6 feet away from anyone you don’t live with.
• • Wear a mask. If wearing a costume mask, wear a mouth and nose covering underneath it.
• • Distribute candy outside — not at the front door — and maintain 6 feet social distancing by putting treats on a table or using a tube to put candy in trick-or-treaters bags.

Dr. Reynolds also noted that many state regulations remain in effect to limit the size of gatherings. And, every one should consider if any increased exposure is worth the risk to themselves, other family members and their contacts. Risk factors such as age, illness, and pre-existing conditions may require not participating at all.
