City of Flint Launches Yard Waste Collection Season April 1

FLINT, Mich. The City of Flint is reminding residents that yard waste collection season will officially begin April 1, marking the return of weekly curbside pickup to help keep neighborhoods clean, safe, and environmentally responsible throughout the spring, summer, and fall months.
Through the City’s “Bag It!” Program, residents are encouraged to properly collect and dispose of yard waste, including grass clippings, leaves, and small branches, on their regular collection day. Yard waste will be picked up by a separate truck and must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m., at least 10 feet away from regular trash carts.
Mayor Sheldon A. Neeley emphasized the importance of community partnership in maintaining Flint’s progress.
“Keeping Flint clean takes all of us working together,” said Mayor Neeley. “Through prayer, planning and partnership, we are continuing to move our city forward. The Bag It! Program is a simple but powerful way for residents to take pride in their neighborhoods, protect our environment, and help ensure Flint is prepared for the seasons ahead.”
The collection season will run through November 30, giving residents ample opportunity to maintain their properties while contributing to a cleaner, greener Flint.
To support residents, the City will provide free yard waste bags at three convenient locations:
- Flint City Hall
- Mays Senior & Community Center
- McKinley Community Center
Residents may receive up to three (3) bags per visit, with a maximum of two visits per household, while supplies last.
Residents are reminded not to rake or blow yard waste into the street or storm drains, as this can cause blockages, street flooding, and environmental harm. Violations may result in citations.
