Flint City Council Rejects Water Stabilization Funding, Leaving Residents at Risk

FLINT, Mich. – The City Council voted against Mayor Neeley’s proposal to add $1 million to the City of Flint’s Water Stabilization Fund—funding that would have shielded residents from the 5.8 percent rate increase imposed by the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA).

“Today, Flint families lost,” said Ed Taylor, Chief of Staff for the City of Flint.

“Families in Flint are already struggling with rising costs, and this ‘no’ vote puts them at even greater risk,” Mayor Neeley said. “It’s unacceptable that politics are taking priority over the basic needs of our residents.”

Mayor Neeley vowed to continue fighting for Flint households by exploring every available option to offset GLWA’s rate increases and protect residents from additional financial hardship.
