City of Flint renames building to honor longtime employee Betty Wideman

FLINT, Michigan—The City of Flint has renamed the transportation building in honor of Betty Wideman, who worked at the City of Flint for 26 years.

Wideman began her career at the City of Flint in 1994 as an administrative clerk and through her hardwork and dedication received promotion after promotion. She was a dependable leader in the transportation division, most recently serving as division manager. She passed in November 2020 of Covid-19.

The City of Flint has renamed its transportation building, commonly called the 12th Street garage, in honor of Wideman who spent countless hours there serving residents of the City of Flint. The name change, proposed by Mayor Sheldon Neeley and Transportation Director John Daly, was approved by City Council.

A dedication ceremony is planned for 4 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 2021, at the facility, 702 W. 12th Street.

“This past year, we lost so many friends, family, neighbors and community heroes. We are grateful for this opportunity to honor Betty and remember her great contribution to this City,” Mayor Sheldon Neeley said.
