Here’s how residents can weigh in on Flint’s $99 million in federal funding

FLINT, Michigan—Mayor Sheldon Neeley hosted a communitywide update today to share additional information with residents about the $99 million in federal funding the City of Flint expects to receive through the American Rescue Plan Act.

“We will continue to make sure that residents have access to good, accurate information and have an opportunity to have their voices heard,” Mayor Neeley said. “This funding is a game-changer for our community so it is important that we hear from residents before making final decisions about our priorities.”

Mayor Neeley outlined five main pillars of funding possibilities he has heard so far from residents and asked for additional community input to help the city set priorities for the funding.

Mayor Neeley was joined by U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, who shared additional information about the American Recovery Plan during the community update.

The City of Flint is expected to receive $99 million as part of the American Rescue Plan Act, a massive $1.9 trillion federal measure that also provides separate dollars for COVID vaccines and testing; mortgage, rental and utility assistance; expanded health care coverage as well as stimulus checks and tax credits for families.

The pillars of possible funding identified so far by residents include:

• Public Safety

• Blight Elimination

• Job Creation

• Infrastructure

• Owner-occupied Home Rehab and Repairs

Residents who missed Mayor Neeley’s live community update can still watch the recorded presentation on the City’s Facebook Page, YouTube Channel and Website.
