Local Oral Health Coalition and Michigan Oral Health Coalition to host free dental health summit in Flint

Summit will feature a wide variety of topics on dental health and its effect on overall health including the Flint Water Crisis’ impact on oral health

 

FLINT – On Friday, June 14, the Genesee Health Plan Oral Health Coalition in partnership with the Michigan Oral Health Coalition (MOHC) will host the 2019 Michigan Central Area Oral Health Summit for the Genesee County Area from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mott Community College Event Center.  The free summit is open to the public including medical and dental professionals. Four continuing education credits (CEs) will be offered for attendees.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

The summit will feature a variety of topics that include maternal and infant oral health, water fluoridation, health conditions that can be caused by poor oral health and how oral health impacts overall health of the body. Experts will also discuss the Flint Water Crisis and its impact on oral health for adults and children. The summit will conclude with a panel discussion on the identification of barriers to accessing oral health services including social and cultural barriers.  Panelists include dentists, community leaders, elected officials, health and dental professionals.
