City of Flint December 29, 2021 Update: Secondary Water Pipeline

FLINT, MI — The Department of Public Works began facilitating 95/5 water increment combining/blending to the Genesee County Drain Commission (GCDC) secondary water pipeline on Monday, August 23, 2021. The process of combining the primary and secondary water sources was required to complete necessary repairs to the City’s primary water pipeline.

Due to supply chain issues that have impacted delivery of chemical feed building components, the City amended the timeline for Phase V (incremental water combining/blending to 100 percent for the secondary GCDC secondary water pipeline) and returned to Phase III (50 percent to the GCDC secondary water pipeline and 50 percent to the GLWA primary water pipeline), which occurred on Monday, December 13, 2021.

Update:

• Supply chain issues have impacted progress on the fabrication of flange adapters needed to use the 36-inch valves on Control Station #2. As a result, contractors will tentatively mobilize on January 17, and on January 21, Water Treatment Plant staff will not have access to Control Station #2. 

• Due to the City’s amended timeline for Phase V, the incremental water combining/blending to 100 percent for the secondary GCDC secondary water pipeline will be delayed at least one week (end of January 2022).

• As the city awaits delivery of flange adapters, the temporary chemical feed phosphate pump will serve as back-up until the rebuilt pump arrives.

All protocols are in adherence with the State of Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act, and the City’s agreement with its primary water supplier, GLWA, will continue to be followed..
