I-69 construction in Genesee County resumes May 3

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will resume construction on I-69 from Ballenger Highway to Fenton Road. Remaining work includes pavement work, steel structural repairs on the Hammerberg Road overpass, and completion of the median wall. This is part of an overall $34 million investment to reconstruct 2 miles of I-69 in Genesee County.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS:                     

One lane will be closed in each direction 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3 while crews remove a light pole from the median.

Beginning May 8, motorists can expect a single-lane closure in the right lane of westbound I-69, with the northbound Hammerberg Road loop ramp to westbound I-69 closed for steel repairs and concrete work to the overpass. This work is expected to take approximately 6 weeks. Motorists can also expect single-lane closures in each direction of Hammerberg Road under I-69 for bridge painting.

Additional intermittent lane and shoulder closures are expected throughout the project to accommodate remaining work.  

SAFETY BENEFITS:
This work will complete 2 miles of reconstruction improving the roadway design, pavement surface, and drainage. One direction of the roadway has also been built using a 30-year pavement design to test the feasibility of long-lasting pavement designs when paired with consistent maintenance.
