August 19, 2016 (Flint, Mich) — Mayor Karen Weaver and Congressman Dan Kildee will host (re)IGNITION Flint MBK this Saturday, August 20 at U of M-Flint. President Obama launched the My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge in 2014 as a call to action for local leaders around the country to build and execute robust plans to ensure that all young people (and especially young boys and men of color)– achieve their full potential regardless of where they come from, or the circumstances into which they were born. The City of Flint previously joined the initiative, but little has been done to secure programs in the community to help motivate local youth to get involved, so Mayor Weaver and Congressman Kildee are restarting the effort with a plan to move full speed ahead!

This Saturday, Flint MBK will officially join the MBK Michigan Alliance. The (re)IGNITION event will feature local and national speakers including: Isaiah Oliver – Vice President of Community Impact at Community Foundation of Greater Flint; Reta Stanley – CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters and Robert Simmons – Vice President of Strategy and Innovation of Campaign for Black Male Achievement.
The event is free and open to the public. The following is a link to the online ticket registration page: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reignition-flint-mbk-tickets-26918767759. Participants can also register at the door.
