ELIGIBLES:
ELIGIBLES: Permanent, Seasonal or Interim employees of the City of Flint (excluding Casual Skilled Laborers, Golf Course Clubhouse Aides & School Crossing Guards) who have at least six (6) months seniority. (All eligibles must possess the minimum acceptable employment requirements as listed below)
 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Plans, organizes and directs recreational and social activities at an assigned recreational center. Issue and accounts for supplies; Keeps various records;Daily housekeeping; Performs related work.
 
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Three (3) years of full-time, paid work experience in municipal or community recreation involving the programming of recreational activities.
2. Working knowledge of the principles and administrative practices of community recreation.
3. Considerable knowledge of the more common physical and social activities.
4. Knowledge of the purposes and aims or organized recreational work.
5. Basic knowledge of first aid methods.
6. Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
7. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with Senior Citizens, children and the general public.
8. Ability to meet the physical, mental and visual standards of the job.
9. Ability and willingness to work in a manner that will not needlessly endanger the safety to ones self, other person and equipment.

1. Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License.
2. Possession of State and National Certification in Recreation encouraged.

GENERAL

Flint is a dynamic city of over 120,000 population with unsurpassed educational facilities. A junior college and a branch of the University of Michigan are centrally located in the city. The city is undergoing dramatic physical change, with downtown development projects, and urban renewal projects. Flint is nationally known for its college and cultural center and internationally known for its Mott program of community education and recreation. Graduate work may be attained at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Eastern Michigan University, or Central Michigan University, each within an hour’s driving time from Flint. Michigan’s outstanding expressway system also places Flint within easy driving distance of the state’s many fine summer and winter recreation areas. Flint also has an international airport with scheduled passenger service.

The City of Flint employs approximately 1000 full and part-time employees under the civil service system. The many different departments provide such community services as police and fire protection, parks, golf and recreational facilities, street and sewer construction and maintenance, sanitation water supply, water pollution control, community development and many others.

Employment with the City of Flint is contingent on meeting the medical standards of the position. A pre-employment physical examination administered by the City is required. Any serious medical condition may be cause for disqualification.
