ELIGIBLES:
Permanent, Seasonal or Interim employees of the City of Flint (excluding Casual Skilled Laborers, Golf Course Clubhouse Aides & School Crossing Guards) who have at least six (6) months seniority. (All eligibles must possess the minimum acceptable employment requirements as listed below)
 
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
Supervises and participates in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of automotive and/or construction equipment and accessories; performs related work as required.
 
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Three (3) years of full-time paid work experience as a Truck and Heavy Equipment Mechanic , performing motor vehicle servicing and repair work;
2. Preferably including experience with diesel power and construction equipment. Prescribed experience as journeyman automotive mechanic preferred.
3. Considerable familiarity with tools and equipment used in servicing and repair of motor vehicles.
4. Considerable knowledge of and skill in using standard tools and equipment used in motor vehicle repair.
5. Considerable knowledge of operating principles of internal combustion engines and other mechanical components of motor vehicles.
6. Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of employees.
7. Ability to estimate the man-hours, technique, tools, materials, and equipment required to complete or repair a maintenance project.
8. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
9. Ability to maintain records and make reports.

GENERAL

Flint is a dynamic city of over 120,000 population with unsurpassed educational facilities. A junior college and a branch of the University of Michigan are centrally located in the city.
